Abu Dhabi: Emirates Palace is planning to set a record for the World's largest fireworks to mark the 38th UAE National Day on Wednesday night, a spokesperson for the hotel said on Tuesday.
The fireworks, which will reach up to 2,000 metre into the air, will feature 100,000 devices to be set off from 12 barges situated off shore Abu Dhabi, said Janet Abrahams, executive director of sales and marketing at Emirates Palace.
The display aims to showcase the city of Abu Dhabi to the world, according to a statement from the Emirates Palace.
The world's largest fireworks display so far featured 66,326 devices, set off on the Portuguese island of Madeira for a New Year's Eve display in 2006, according to the Guinness World Records.
A formal attempt was lodged and Guinness inspectors will visit the fireworks locations, Abrahams said. Displays will begin at 8.30pm and last for 45 minutes from three barges at Emirates Palace Marina Bay and from five more alongside the West Corniche.
Firework shows will be visible from the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Shaikh Zayed Mosque and Al Bateen Marina, according to the Emirates Palace.
One of the attractions lined up for the National Day is the largest human flag on record that was created by 600 employees of Emirates Palace.
