Dubai: A father has been searching for his son missing in the UAE since April 2014 with no leads.

Pakistani Faruq Khan said his 24-year-old son, Mohammad Sadiq, vanished without a trace in Ajman while he was on an overseas trip.

Sadiq worked in an Ajman car showroom selling cars that Khan exported to the UAE from Japan. Khan said police in various emirates have not been able to trace him yet. A missing person report has been filed with the police in more than one emirate, he said.

“Sadiq had called me in April but I was busy so I said, ‘I’ll be coming to the UAE in a day or two and we’ll chat then’. That is the last time we spoke,” said Khan, 52.

Sadiq’s phone was off and he had been absent from the car showroom for a day or two when Khan arrived. His social media posts had also stopped and friends were unable to reach him.

Khan added he keeps visiting the UAE to follow up with authorities about Sadiq’s case.

“I walk for hours in markets and streets hoping I’ll see him or get a lead, even till 2.30am. But nothing has turned up. We don’t know if he’s dead or alive. His mum keeps crying.”

Sadiq is Khan’s second oldest child. He has eight children – four boys and four girls.

“He is a quiet and shy young lad, at least in front of elders in the family. I’ve been told he was very outgoing in Dubai, but that’s not how I remember him. I’m losing hope to be honest and the stress is overwhelming.”

Khan said he has checked “hospitals and jails. Sadiq’s passport is still on hand, he didn’t leave the UAE, at least not officially. No one knows anything about what could have happened”.
