Dubai: Al Mamzar Beach Park can now be an alternative destination for women looking for a beach with a ladies only day.

Due to the ongoing development projects in the Jumeirah Beach Park, which was the number one option for women looking for a ladies only day beach, the beach park had to be closed down by Dubai Municipality to ensure the smooth running of the Dubai Canal project and other developmental work last Sunday.

The municipality confirmed that they temporarily cancelled the ladies day and all other activities in the beach park with promises of reopening the beach park by the end of 2016 with a new look and new facilities in line with the latest developments in Dubai.

Mohammad Hassan Al Fardan, head of public parks, the recreation section and the horticulture department, told Gulf News that the best alternative for those who are looking for a beach park similar to Jumeirah Beach Park is Al Mamzar Beach Park.

“Al Mamzar Beach Park is bigger and is one of the alternative places the public can visit. It includes five beaches and the same facilities and services people used to enjoy at Jumeirah Beach Park, including a special day for ladies only on Mondays. There are many open beaches in Jumeirah too that people can visit in the meantime until Jumeirah Beach Park reopens,” Al Fardan said.

Al Fardan also said that the park at Jumeirah Beach Park will remain open until December, including the barbecue area, the children’s area and the garden area.

Residents, especially women, were upset after hearing the news about the closure, since they were not aware that other public beaches have a day for ladies only.

“I used to always go to Jumeirah Beach Park because I liked how clean it was and the view it had. I also liked how it was a combination of a beach and a park because I used to visit the park at night to spend time with friends. Now that I have heard of Al Mamzar Beach Park and that it has a ladies only day, I’ll definitely check it out,” said Tamara Al Junaid, 20, from Yemen.

Fatima Al Shmaily, an Emirati who enjoyed going to Jumeirah Beach Park on ladies day, said: “I am familiar with Al Mamzar Beach Park, but I never knew it had a ladies only day on Mondays. The only problem with it though is that it is too far from my house, which means I’ll be forced to go to private beaches which are closer.”
