Saturday, March 23 was Earth Hour.

To promote how important participating in such events is to today’s generation, members of SynergY, a group of students from various institutions across the UAE who have pledged to do their best to advocate to society how important adopting an eco-friendly lifestyle is, gathered together for Earth Hour 2013, organised by Dewa.

The event was held at the Burj Plaza in Downtown Dubai, from 8.30 to 9.30 pm and drew around 3,000 visitors.

Throughout the event, Synergy members managed a booth where they promoted their message: The Global Call – Let’s Make News this Earth Hour 2013, designed to bring people from all corners of the UAE together to conserve energy as part of the global initiative and encourage people to be more environmentally conscious.

They interacted with families, youth and children, promoting the need for environmental education and also made a Wall of Expression, which attracted hundreds of people who wrote their messages about Earth Hour 2013.

It was a truly momentous occasion and an encouraging moment for the members who were awarded and recognized by Dewa and the organisers of the event later that evening.

This recognition meant a lot for those participants who have worked tirelessly for many months to raise awareness for the environment and climate change.
