Volunteers make Terry Fox run memorable

The annual Dubai Terry Fox Run was held at the picturesque Dubai Festival City. Thousands of people from all walks of life turned up to run, walk, roller blade and show solidarity with the cause of fighting cancer.

Green Hope UAE, a youth organisation that believes in carrying forward the Rio+20 legacy of sustainable development, volunteered for this mega event.

Addressing social issues is an integral part of sustainability and Green Hope members volunteered to show support for the indomitable spirit of Terry Fox and to carry forward the fight against cancer.

Our day started at 6.15am and we helped the organisers with the various pre-race tasks. Members of our volunteer group stood out in their fluorescent green jackets and were spread out at various points of the run route to guide the participants. We manned the water stations and supplied the thirsty runners as they completed the course.

We jotted down our views on the memorable “I Run for...” wall and pledged to join again next year.
