Abu Dhabi

Over two months ago, the underpass in Abu Dhabi’s Musaffah area has been closed for construction. The underpass connects Musaffah Industrial area to the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Highway and is a crucial connection to the main Abu Dhabi City.

When the tunnel was open, the traffic flow was slow during evening peak hours and with it closed motorists are forced to take alternative routes, which get extremely crowded. The diversion created is unable to take the current traffic load, because there is traffic coming in from the highway and the diverted traffic trying to enter Musaffah. This leads to a bottle neck.

Why is it taking so long to reopen? As it is the Musaffah Industrial area is poorly planned, there are two exit points and countless entry points. It usually takes around 20 minutes to get to Abu Dhabi City, but with the current situation getting out of the area takes 30 minutes.

Most of the time you don’t see any construction crews around. We’re not even sure if there is any work going on or it has stopped. The public should be notified through signboards about the progress of the works, along with a targeted completion date. We keep trying our luck every week to find out that it is still closed. Our questions need to be answered by the concerned authorities.
