Reader says the initiative was a way to thank workers for their hard work
After a very successful first visit to Dubai Municipality Al Qusais Landfill that witnessed distribution of 130 food packages to benefit the scrap collection labours, Dubai Municipality staff and labourers working on site, our determined efforts continued.
Over 170 workers were given food packages in Tadweer waste composting site in Dubai. In UAE, it is a common sight to see people giving more food to the poor and the homeless and even to see large public areas for the poor to come and end their fast.
It is said that if a person helps a fasting person to end their fast, then they receive a reward for that fast, without diminishing the reward that the fasting person got.
Synergy members also promoted the important message to reduce food wastage ‘Think East Save’ during this time.
As the founder of Synergy, I chose the Tadweer waste composting site because we planted 50 trees on the UAE National Environment Day here and realised the unstated harsh work these people do for us. This was our way to express gratefulness and share time with them during the holy month of Ramadan.
In total, Synergy distributed around 500 packages during Ramadan.
I call on the youth, corporate and community members to join us in our initiatives beyond Ramadan.
