Dubai has great road networks with six to eight-lane highways. But road accidents are alarmingly high. Based on the latest statistics by Dubai Police, there were 2,686 accidents last year, claiming 152 lives and injuring 1,948 people in Dubai.

Why is this happening? We surely have the best roads, but are the drivers seemingly the worst in town?

To find out, community journalists Cecilie Kallestrup and Manuel Almario drove along Shaikh Zayed Road to capture footage of the traffic situation (see video on gulfnews.com).

In just 10 minutes, they captured almost 10 road offences on film — speeding and driving recklessly, tailgating and flashing, using mobile phone while driving, changing lanes without indicating, and indicating right while turning left!
