Dubai

I received a special parking permit in July that could be used at any handicap parking slot (as seen in photograph). However, I then came across an article in Gulf News about how cars that are not registered correctly would be fined Dh1,000 for misusing the handicapped space. The spaces are said to be monitored by a radar, which checks if the car is registered and has a permit.

I have some queries that I would like clarification on.

The car that I own is company owned and has a commercial registration. Thus, how can I get it registered? This was the crux of the issue that I had faced before, as Dubai does not register commercial cars to give special needs parking permits. However, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) had issued several parents and me the attached card at the Special Needs Future Development Center in Dubai. We were to display the card in the car while parking at this facility.

Does this mean that now, when I display this parking card on the dashboard, I would still be fined? I do have a special needs parking permit issued by the RTA, but my vehicle is not registered by Dubai Police.

Finally, if it’s true, then why have I been issued a special parking card that is not helpful in getting a secured space for the handicapped?

I would appreciate if Gulf News and the RTA could answer my queries and clarify this issue for many parents who have obtained these cards. We are now in a dilemma as to whether our cards can be used or we are back to square one.
