Old road markings in Sharjah confuse motorists. Image Credit: Kishin Sainani

Sharjah

I regularly visit a hypermarket on Al Wahda Road in Sharjah. There’s a parking lot located behind the building of this hypermarket, which is used by all its customers.

A few years ago, due to the construction of the bridge on Al Wahda Road, there were road diversions and as a result, the road behind this hypermarket was converted into a one-way street and marked accordingly.

Though the diversions were removed after the construction of the bridge and new roads in the area were completed more than a year ago, the road markings, that indicate the flow of traffic in one direction only, are still there. But, the traffic is now moving in both directions.

Though regular drivers in the area may know it is a road with traffic flowing both ways, any new driver who follows the road markings might get confused and this might result in a dangerous accident, as it will be a head-on collision! I am, therefore. very scared to drive on this stretch of road now. I’d rather take the longer route to the hypermarket’s parking lot in order to avoid this road. But, not everyone would do the same, and in an attempt to take the shorter route they might end up losing out.

I request the concerned authorities in Sharjah to please correct the markings to avoid any possible future accidents and loss of property or even life.
