The panoramic Al Khan Lagoon that separates Sharjah and Dubai is a popular picnic spot, especially for residents of Sharjah. But the absence of restrooms nearby makes it difficult for families to spend long hours on the placid lagoon. Image Credit: Qudsiya Seddiqi/Gulf News Reader

Al Khan Lagoon situated in between Sharjah and Dubai is popular for jet skiing and wind surfing in suitable weather conditions. This beach was one of the hot spots during the recent Eid holiday; many families were seen sizzling up barbecues, jet-skiing, swimming and spending some quality time with their loved ones.

However, the most common problem faced by these visitors was the absence of public restrooms near the Al Khan lagoon. The nearest restroom is at Al Qasba in Sharjah, which is approximately 2km away from the lagoon and in order to reach there one has to battle the traffic near Al Taawun Mall. The lack of such public convenience forces many families to leave the beach early.

On speaking to several groups on the beach, it was humbly requested by all that the authorities concerned look into this matter and resolve this issue by installing an easily maintained public restroom and showers for swimmers.
