It was a lovely evening here in Abu Dhabi and I decided to take my family for a walk at the corniche. We were capturing some shots of the area’s natural beauty as the sunset was due. While moving on, we suddenly found a load of trash floating in the sea. I have been living in Abu Dhabi for the past five years and this was the first time that I witnessed such a sight, especially at the corniche as it is usually well maintained. There was a long trail of trash which included food, plastic bottles and plastic bags, which is severely dangerous for the environment and also for marine life.
Also, I found the safety wires broken and damaged at several places along the boundary of the sea, which makes it quite dangerous for the children playing around. I would urge the Abu Dhabi Municipality to carry out proper patrolling along the Corniche, both at sea and ground areas. They should also place “Do Not Litter” signs at some properly visible places, especially near the sea boundary in order to keep the visitors aware.
If the site remains ignored any longer, it will lead to be a breeding ground for mosquitoes and flies, which could lead to diseases in the area.
