Gulf News reader Zia Mohyuddin took this photograph near Sharjah’s Buhairah. He said: ‘I’ve seen light posts with the wires uncovered twice earlier. This is extremely dangerous for everybody, especially young children. Anyone could get injured with the wires exposed like that. This needs to be addressed immediately.’

Why does the responsibility of identifying such life-threatening hazards fall on the public? Where are the authorities whose remit is to identify and maintain such things? Why is no one held accountable for such a clear dereliction of their duty? The last technician who worked on this electrical connection should be sacked. Maybe then his co-workers will learn to do their job correctly Or does another child have to get killed before action is taken?
