Abu Dhabi: My family and I visited the backwaters situated across the Corniche in Abu Dhabi, a few days ago. I was shocked to see an open electrical junction box where all visitors congregate (as seen in photograph). Beachgoers use this path to go down to the shore.

What was worse was the fact that the junction box was at ground level, where even a toddler could easily come in contact with the open live wires. I shuddered at the thought of an innocent child touching these wires or to that matter an adult accidently coming in contact with it.

The lock of the box was broken and my attempt to keep it shut did not work. There was no official in sight nor were there any emergency numbers mentioned on the box.

As a desperate measure, I placed a brick to keep the door shut, knowing fully well that it would not remain closed for long.

I urge the concerned authorities to immediately secure the junction box and also shift it to a higher place where it will be away from the people visiting the area.
