As a resident of Al Qasimia area, Sharjah, I would like to draw the attention of readers to a particular issue in my neighbourhood.

While I was walking back home from my friend’s house recently, I noticed that at a particular construction site in the area, there are no pedestrian walkways.

It is quite difficult for pedestrians to walk here, as there is a road right next to the site, which is always quite busy. It is not at all safe, as many fatal accidents could possibly take place in the area.

We have been facing this problem for the past one and a half years. It is really hard for pedestrians to walk along the main road, as cars come here from all directions.

Last week, when I was returning home from this area, a car was almost about to hit me. The issue is that it is a blind spot for motorists, because of the building that is under construction.

If the authorities could help by moving the barricades or construction site walls further into the plot, it would clear the walkway by a minimum of one metre. Such mishaps would then be avoided to a great extent.
