Green Hope UAE crossed another milestone in children and youth engagement towards a sustainable future by organising its third and most successful Plant-for-the-Planet academy at the Deira International School on June 8. Held to commemorate World Environment Day and also World Oceans Day, which also falls on June 8, this academy got an overwhelming turnout of almost 100 students and teachers from over 10 schools across the UAE.

The latest academy had many unique ingredients, such as a One Act Play, entirely composed and enacted by the group. It dealt with the topic of global warming and carbon footprint. The group activities, environmental quiz and the informative presentations on climate justice, land degradation, biodiversity conservation and reduction of fossil fuel usage made it a day to remember for the participants. They pledged to make a difference and work towards environmental conservation by sticking their pledges on the unique “Tree of Hope”.

This was an academy conducted entirely by children, for children and helped to spread awareness about sustainable development. Its theme of “Stop Talking, Start Planting” was reiterated with the planting of 100 trees, which is the first step towards stopping land degradation and reduction of carbon footprint.

The participants, who are called Climate Justice Ambassadors, will now spread the word in their own spheres of influence, thus popularising the message of sustainability.
