The music launch for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya in Mumbai on Tuesday turned out to be one of the biggest Bollywood events of the year with a number of celebrities attending and a poetry reading by veteran Gulzar.

Singer Daler Mehndi and composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy performed a few songs from the album.

Gulzar is the lyricist and writer of the film, which is the debut of actor Anil Kapoor’s son, Harshvardhan.

Shankar Mahadevan said he had a good time working with Gulzar.

“He always gets something new... every day is a new experience, every day is like a new surprise. We get to learn something new from him every day. We consider ourselves very lucky to work with Gulzar saab,” Mahadevan told reporters.

The title track, Mirzya, is sung by Daler Mehendi, who has done a lot of title tracks for Mehra, including Rang De Basanti.

“I am grateful to Mehra ji that he believes in me and loves my voice. Last four to five years, I was doing shows but in films I was not getting anything and I also couldn’t sing because with the kind of songs were being made these days. The songs you will listen in this film are pure Indian music,” he said.

Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Boney Kapoor, Sridevi, Javed Akhtar, Tanvi Azim were among those present.

Mirzya pairs Harshvardhan opposite newcomer Saiyami Kher and is a take on the tragic love story of Mirza-Sahiban.
