London: Scotland international Andy Robertson put pen to paper on a long-term contract with Liverpool, the English Premier League (EPL) club announced on its website.

Speaking after completing his move, the 23-year-old defender told Liverpoolfc.com: “It feels a wee bit surreal just now. Obviously I’m delighted. There’s been a lot of speculation over the last couple of weeks but I’m glad that the deal’s finally been done and I’m a Liverpool player.

“There’s not many, if any, more special clubs than Liverpool. When you grow up as a kid, you dream of playing with big clubs such as Liverpool and to make that a reality is a dream come true for me,” he said, as reported by Efe.

“I just want to prove to people that I can do it at this level, and hopefully I manage to do that this season and go on to do good things for this club.”

The manager of the Red Devils, German Jurgen Klopp, welcomed the new player: “For Andrew, this is another big step on what has been a quite incredible personal journey in a very short space of time.

“I love his story; where he has come from professionally to reach this point,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com.

Robertson began his senior career with Queen’s Park in 2012 before joining Dundee United a year later.

In his first season as a professional, he was named Scottish Young Player of the Year and also made his international debut.

The defender joined Hull in July 2014 for a fee of 3.17 million euros (Dh13.56 million), before joining Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.

French international defender Kurt Zouma, meanwhile, has joined Stoke City from reigning league champions Chelsea on a season-long loan.

‘Stoke City are delighted to announce the signing of Kurt Zouma on a season-long loan from Premier League champions Chelsea,’ the club confirmed on Friday.

The 22-year-old centre-back has figured in 47 appearances for Chelsea before he was loaned to French club A.S Saint-Etienne.

Commenting on the signing, club manager Mark Hughes said: “Kurt is undoubtedly one of the most talented young defenders in the game, so naturally his arrival will enhance our playing squad for the forthcoming campaign.

“We have priortised adding further strength in depth to defensive positions this summer, and we have certainly done that by fending off any number of clubs who were all interested in taking Kurt on loan.

“He first caught my attention as a 17-year-old during his time at St Etienne and, in fact, I actually tried to sign him at that point in his career, but whilst that deal never materialised I am delighted to finally get the opportunity to work with him now.”
