Abu Dhabi: Pet owners always have a tough time planning holidays. Finding a trustworthy place to keep their pets when they’re away is a major concern for most.

The Pet Care Centre (PCC) at Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital offers the perfect solution for such people. “Our pet hotel is one of the largest in the UAE and caters to a wide range of customers,” said Margit Gabriele Muller, Director of the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital.

“Owners can plan their vacations in advance as we accept bookings for boarding very early. The pets can be boarded as long as the owners want,” she added.

According to Muller, demand peaks during summer which, she said is why they stress prior bookings.

She said the centre takes various precautionary steps before boarding pets. “We examine them to ensure they have been vaccinated.

“The pets are also dewormed, if required, and treated for fleas. All pets are examined daily to ensure they are healthy,” said Muller.

The owners are asked to list the habits of their pets. “This ensures we provide them a home-like environment. We also accept and encourage owners to bring toys, beds, special blankets to which their pets are used to in order to make them feel comfortable,” she said.

Muller said the response to the centre, which opened in 2007, has been overwhelming.

“We have clients from Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai. So overwhelming is the demand that we have to expand our facilities every year.”

Besides a well-equipped veterinary hospital for small animals, the centre also has a grooming parlour that takes care of their beauty needs.

“The PCC is staffed with highly experienced professionals who treat our customers’ pets like kings and queens, ” says its website.

Muller said they provide excellent boarding facilities even for older pets or pets requiring medication. “We also offer pet pick-up and drop service for busy owners,” she said.

The animals and birds are housed – not caged - in different facilities in spacious rooms and monitored round the clock by dedicated staff.

“The large majority of our pets for boarding are cats and dogs. We also receive rabbits, guinea pigs, turtles and tortoises as well as hamsters for boarding,” Muller said.

“Birds are kept in rooms with natural wood branches. Cats have their own dedicated room with a scratching tree and window with a shelf for sunbathing. They have a lot of room to roam around and play.

“The dogs are accommodated in big rooms in our kennel with a garden compartment and special run outside. They are also taken for walks in the mornings and evenings,” she added.
