The Zombies, the 1960s British group whose psychedelic rock won a cult following, have announced a final tour for their classic album Odessey and Oracle.
The group scheduled concerts around North America to mark a half-century since recording the album, starting on March 17 in Philadelphia and closing in Los Angeles.
The Zombies, writing on Facebook, said they would schedule dates in Britain and Europe later next year.
Never as prominent as other British Invasion bands such as The Beatles, Rolling Stones and The Who, The Zombies recorded Odessey and Oracle at Abbey Road studios in London to an initially indifferent reception and feuding that caused the band to split.
But the album’s final track, Time of the Season, became a hit in the United States with the hazy guitar and vocal harmonies coming to represent the psychedelic spirit of the counterculture.
The song frequently appears in documentaries on the 1960s, with Odessey and Oracle making numerous critics’ lists of the greatest albums of all time.
The Zombies, who were nominated on Tuesday for possible inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, wrote on Facebook that the tour would mark the last time they play Odessey and Oracle in its entirety.
