Dr Dre is reportedly on the brink of releasing his first studio album of new material since 1999’s confusingly named 2001.

First, his longtime collaborator Ice Cube — who has also worked with Dre on the forthcoming NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton — told the Philadelphia radio station Power 99: “Dre is dropping an album inspired by the Compton movie. He’s dropping something on August 1.”

He added: “It’s mega, it’s Dr Dre, it’s what everybody’s been waiting for,” he said. “It’s definitely a dope record.” Rolling Stone reports that the album will be the Straight Outta Compton soundtrack — which Ice Cube said would also feature new music from NWA. The magazine said the album would feature Kendrick Lamar and Eminem. Dr Dre’s follow-up to 2001 was due to be an album called Detox, which has been apparently finished and scheduled for release multiple times, but has never made it into the shops. Last year, Dre collaborators Marsha Ambrosius and Dawaun Parker both said Dre was working on an album, but had ditched Detox.
