Industrial Avenue at China Grill, The Westin Mina Seyahi, has introduced two new dance nights for the garage head and the disco diva in you: Elektric Lollipop — featuring some groovy tunes — on Thursdays, and Urban Hustle — featuring R’n’B, dubstep and UK garage — on Fridays.

Marc T, 42, is the selector behind the beats of Urban Hustle. He tells us what we can expect when he hits the decks.

Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you become a DJ, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve always loved good music. When I was younger, I got a job carrying record boxes for an experienced DJ because it was the only way to get into a club before I was old enough. One thing lead to another and I have been DJing in clubs for about 25 years now.

What was your first time DJing like? Where was it?

My first time was at Pantiles in the UK. First time nerves really try and bring you down, but stick with it and enjoy the music and it soon comes together.

Can you tell us about the atmosphere at Industrial Avenue?

Industrial Avenue is for people who love music. It’s not about being the loudest club or having the biggest bottle on a VIP table. The DJs will play music you have never heard before and if you keep your ears, mind and heart open you will have a magical time.

What do you have planned for your sets?

I try not to plan them — there’s always a few key tunes I wish to sneak in but it’s about flow and interaction with the audience.

How would you describe your style — and where do you discover new music?

I’m open format, music that keeps people dancing. We are lucky to have the internet, so I don’t need to travel to record stores and dig through hours of music to find good tracks.

What were some of the beginner mistakes you made when you were starting out?

Always bring your own needles. I guess some of you are too young to know why. Didn’t make that mistake twice.

What’s your earliest music-related memory as a kid or teen?

I used to have a small portable radio as a toddler that went everywhere with me like a security blanket.

If you weren’t DJing full-time, what do you think your profession would be?

Rocket scientist maybe… oh come on, why would I want to be anything but a DJ?

What are the three hottest songs on your set right now?

Listen more closely — they are all hot! Old or new they provoke emotions, and dance floor action.
