Unfortunately, our GT-R is still with Nissan, who wanted to use it as the Leading Car (no less) at the Yas Marina round of the FIA GT1 last weekend. Obviously, it was flogged around the circuit and even though it doesn't need new tyres yet, it is a good opportunity to figure out the maintenance costs involved.

The GT-R runs bespoke RE070r Bridgestone Potenza runflats, which I expected would be expensive. My hunch was right. The front 255/40 ZRF 20s cost Dh1,860 each, while the 285/35 ZRF 20 rear rubbers go for Dh2,230 apiece. That's Dh8,180 for the entire set.

The tyres are fantastic, though: the sidewalls are more compliant than on standard runflats (for greater comfort), but are rated at 80km of driving at 80kph deflated (the same as a regular runflat).

The cheapest service will set you back Dh2,255. Even though the service intervals are every 10,000km, cost may vary depending on the kind of service. Admittedly, in the long run the GT-R will not be an economical car to maintain. But that wouldn't stop me from buying one. If I had the money. Which I don't. Come on Nissan, return ‘my' GT-R already.
