These days, it seems Porsche is spending most of its time designing briefcases, watches and mobile phones, but it's still a dab hand at building sportscars.

The Stuttgart-based automaker hasn't neglected the Boxster, and our spy caught up with the new 2012 roadster burning rubber at BMW's test facility no less, in Munich. What it was doing there remains a mystery, but what we do know is that it'll have 911-inspired LED triangular taillights while the rear looks more aggressive than ever.

The peppy 2.9-litre six-cylinder and 3.4-litre direct injected flat-six will still be available, albeit with more power, mated to either a six-speed manual or PDK dual-clutch.

There have been murmurs of a turbocharged lightweight four-pot making its way into the engine bay, but no confirmation of that just yet. It will gain a few modifications to the suspension, brakes and underbody components too.
