Last summer wheels travelled to Russia so we could stuff ourselves with blini and caviar. Oh, and also to drive the ‘new’ (face-lifted) F01 generation BMW 7 Series.

But less than a year later BMW is already undergoing testing on its latest sixth generation 7er (these are the first sightings of this prototype in the wild), code-named G11 — the company has now gone from the original 1977 E23 to this upcoming 2016 model.

Most likely to go on sale in late 2015, the next 7 Series early development schedule is possibly due to the upcoming launch of its chief rival, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Our regular spies report that the test prototype seems bigger than before (although it’s expected that BMW will shed up to 200kg), while the front door looks shorter than on the current F01 and the rear door is stretched longer.
