Honda released images of its upcoming CR-V crossover in concept from back in July, but now the actual thing has been teased online by the carmaker itself.

Although Honda isn’t quite ready to launch the CR-V yet, we can expect a 2.4-litre four-cylinder i-VTEC as well as a torquey 2.5-litre found in some US-spec Civics.

Disappointingly the concept’s aggressive barge boards, tinted headlamps and satin exterior trim haven’t made it onto the production model. Otherwise it’s business as usual for Honda, as its designers haven’t really put that much effort into revolutionising the crossover segment. The next CR-V looks merely facelifted rather than completely redesigned.

However underneath the staid sheet metal is a new platform which maximises interior room and allows for a lower overall height of the car. Expect the next CR-V to handle even more like a proper car than the already-quite-capable current model.

Next month’s Los Angeles auto show will set the scene for a full official reveal, when we’re also likely to find out how far into 2012 the CR-V will arrive in the GCC.
