What’s going on at BMW these days? A serious case of name shuffling, that’s what. Next year, the Bavarian carmaker will sell the 3 Series Coupé and Convertible as the 4 Series and the 1 Series Coupe and Convertible will become the 2 Series. Confused? You’ll soon get used to it.

Just like you’ll soon get used to this 2 Series cabrio (without the camo…) zooming up and down the road. From the images of this prototype, we can tell that the 2 Series’ headlights are going to be a lot sharper than those on the 1 Series hatch and it’s also sleeker and lower, while the taillight design is specific to the model.

The roof is a softtop piece and this will help keep two things down: cost and more importantly, weight. The one you’ll want is the 2.0-litre petrol with around 218 horsepower. The M Performance model, which most probably will come here, is going to pack upwards of 320bhp.
