Audi’s earned itself a well deserved rest announcing a host of new models over the last week or so, but unfortunately there’s no time for lounging back as the Frankfurt motor show on September 13 is getting mighty close.

Not only has Ingolstadt announced a 2.0-litre TFSI hybrid A8 with 242 system horsepower, but Audi also released a new V8 engine to replace the Lamborghini derived V10 doing service in some of its S cars. The new twin-turbocharged V8 is kicking it off in the bays of theS6, the S7, and S8, serving up 414bhp in the former two, and 513bhp in the latter.

But the workaholic four-roundel team then immediately got busy unveiling a new four-seater electric vehicle in the shape of the 3.8m long A2 concept.

Featuring a zero-emissions powertrain, the A2 concept also shows off a dark glass roof, next generation matrix beam LED headlamps (super strong but non-glaring, basically), adaptive taillights that change their intensity according to the conditions (if it’s foggy, they’re brighter), touch controls in the cabin, and three displays in the instrument binnacle.

Because of the all-electric drivetrain, the Audi A2 concept benefits from an entirely flat floor opening up interior room, while the four individual seats save weight and provide storage space under some fold-up seat cushions. Audi says you can even stuff a bicycle in the boot.

It all sounds very doable, which means we expect the A2 concept to ditch the concept bit within two years.
