Tennis action and watching The Artist are just some of the things the Scene team will be getting up to this week. Image Credit: Supplied pictures

After (belatedly) starting my essential Oscars viewing last week with The Descendants, this week I’m all about catching The Artist and The Iron Lady, so that I can either nod sagely or vent my spleen when the winners are announced. Tonight, I’m off to Meydan for the races, and also to discover all their plans for this year’s Dubai World Cup, which will be very exciting. I’ll also be making time to head to Oasis Centre for their awesome Wellness Festival to pick up some healthy living and cooking tips. And I couldn’t help but notice that a Shakespeare & Co has recently opened at Marina Mall, so that’s where I’ll be getting my hash brown fix on Friday mornings. p.s. R.I.P The Whitney.

This weekend I’m camping out in Dubai Festival City and getting my jazz on. Friday I’m going to catch Jools Holland (after carbo-loading at Jamie’s Italian on the Festival Waterfront). Then, on Saturday I’m hitting up the free Jazz Garden to see the Nicola Conte Jazz Combo, Althea Rene and the Ruby Turner Band! In between bee-bopping, I’m going to be donning my all-whites and exercising my neck at the Tennis Championships in the Aviation Club – I’m hoping to catch a match with Victoria Azarenka in it, and tickets for the run-up matches before the big matches are still for sale (and are affordable too at only Dh50). Then, to wind the week up on Wednesday night I’m going to check out the UAE’s first improv troupe in action at Ductac in Mall of the Emirates – they’re promising audience participation, so I’m currently taking myself back to high school drama to brush up on my skills.

I love February. Aside from the fact that the weather in Dubai is amazing, this is the month that I can happily submerge myself in the full-on frock fest that is awards season and Fashion Week. With New York drawing to a close, and London kicking off the second leg of the autumn/winter collections, while I won’t be getting my tush on the front row this time around, I have a ringside seat (well, kind of) with the minute-by-minute updates online. Oh, how I love modern technology! And while the biggest stars in Tinseltown will be ripping gowns off the runway to wear at the Oscars in a couple of weeks, I’ll merely be pinching a few ideas to begin my Dubai World Cup outfit plan. Yes, it’s just six weeks away – let the hat-hunting mission commence!

I have a busy, busy week ahead of me! First things first, I’ll be laughing the night away this evening at The Laughter Factory at The Grand Millennium, I’ve heard that Tom Stade is absolutely hilarious, so I’m looking forward to earning some new laughter lines this evening. On Friday I’m planning on heading down to Bo House Café to satisfy my new addiction to their Very Berry Shake and then getting my Jazz Fest on at the Jools Holland and His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra gig at night. I was addicted to his show back in the UK, but have never seen them live. During the week I’m heading to The Aviation Club to catch the tennis. It’s not often we have the world’s best players in town, so I’d better take advantage of it.
