Dubai: Visitors flying into the country are in for a treat beginning Friday when Terminals 1 and 3 of the Dubai International Airport will be transformed into virtual funfair venues for the 16th Dubai Summer Surprises as part of the “Summer is Dubai” campaign.
Tourists of all nationalities, especially those from the GCC, will get to meet roaming performers, musicians, and stage actors in the passenger halls of the airport terminals.
Clowns and balloon benders will spread joy among visitors and passengers, especially children, who could get their faces painted with their favourite artwork courtesy of free face painting workshops in the terminals.
Passengers waiting for flights can either pick up new skills through the in-terminal Origami workshop or experience traditional Arabic hospitality at the tents set up complete with dates, coffee, among others.
Modhesh, the summer season’s icon, will also visit the Terminal 1 on June 16 and August 14, while his Terminal 3 visit is scheduled on June 26.
For those who are looking for a different kind of fun, DSS has organised the “Pillow Fight” at the Dubai Ice Rink in Dubai Mall on June 19 for youngsters, or the young at heart, for a mock physical fight using pillows.
Meanwhile, the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), organiser of DSS, on Tuesday announced the names of the 14 students from the Middle East and North Africa who made the cut for the DSS Apprenticeship Programme this year.
Now in its eighth edition, this year’s Apprenticeship Programme will welcome its largest ever group of interns since the programme started in 2006.
“We are very pleased with the overwhelming response that we have received from all the 80 universities that were invited to participate in this year’s edition of the programme. We have had the privilege of receiving quite a large and diversified range of submissions from the brightest and most creative students from 14 different Arabic countries, out of which we had to choose the best 14, and it wasn’t an easy task,” Laila Suhail, CEO of DFRE, said.
