Ushtrasana
- Start in Vajrasana and kneel on the mat, keeping back straight and hands by the sides.
- Slowly lean backwards, taking right hand to right heel and then left hand to left heel. Do not strain the back.
- Push abdomen forward while keeping thighs in a vertical position and dropping head back as far as possible.
- Inhale while getting into this position and breathe normally.
- Hold for 10-30 seconds.
- Slowly return to the start position by releasing hands one by one and sit in Vajrasana.
- Bend forward and stretch the back.
Benefits
- Improves the digestive and reproductive systems by massaging all the internal organs.
- Alleviates constipation by stretching the intestines.
- Improves blood circulation in the spinal cord and stimulates the spinal nerves.
- Helps in correcting drooping shoulders and relieves back pain.
- Regulates the functioning of the thyroid glands.
Note: People suffering from severe back ailments and enlarged thyroid glands should attempt this posture only under expert guidance.
