Yoga offers a healthy solution to beating stress and staying happy.

Walk into the unknown, and the unknown shall reveal itself to you. Walk into the science of yoga and the mystery shall be revealed to you. Yoga is an experience and experiences always remain mysterious as they differ from person to person. As every man and woman walking on this planet is unique, so are the effects of yoga on every person.

The beauty of the science is that it can remove diseases from the body, make a person feel stress-free and relaxed or transport him into a state of meditation. Yoga is a system with many tools and it is you who decides where you want to go.

Be a yogi

If your aim is to shed a few kilos, yoga can help. If your goal is to get rid of a backache, yoga has a solution. But I would rather you receive all the gifts of yoga — from making your body stress-free, to removing stiffness and diseases, to energising — and ultimately reach a stage where you are immersed in meditation and are still leading a happy, productive and fulfiling life, personally and professionally.

I believe a 'Yogi' is a person who remains happy all the time and has not a single gripe against life.

Let's start our journey with some simple postures, which are nothing but "stretching exercises" for the human body. These postures remove the blockages from the body by clearing your nadis, which, according to yoga, is the human body's invisible electrical circuit.

You should feel an immediate sense of relaxation and well-being, as a posture done right has instant effect on your body instead of two or three months from now.

In the exercises shown alongside, try to reach out towards your optimum stretch, which may cause a mild sense of discomfort or a pull in the muscle, something that disappears in a few seconds while you remain in the posture. To begin this journey, start by bearing in mind this law of stretching and you will begin to see the effects of yoga from Day 1. Practice these postures every morning and see for yourself how they improve the quality of your day. See you next week.
