Dubai will feature heavily in Katy Perry’s new film in the form of Filipino designer Furne One. The couturier, who created more than a dozen dresses for Perry’s California Dreams tour, which is documented in Katy Perry: Part of Me, is elated.

“I am flattered and happy. This could be my first movie break,” he says laughing.

One (pronounced on-ay), who’s had a long relationship with the singer and her stylist, is also featured in Perry’s latest video for the single Wide Awake. The brown butterfly-inspired gown is from One’s ‘It’s Alive’ collection, which he showcased at the Dubai Fashion Week in October last year.

“The stylist called me up and gave me the brief. But I asked them to check out the collection to see if there is anything they wanted from there and they picked this one,” he says.

One, who has designed for many celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga and Joan Collins, was recently honoured with the Pinoy Pride Award in his home country.

Of his meeting with Perry at her home in South Beach, Miami, he told tabloid! in an earlier interview: “She was really down to earth, really nice and she kept saying how much she loved the dresses.”

At tabloid!’s request, Perry’s management sent the following statement about the collaboration: “I love working with Furne One because his imagination with designing dresses and costumes for me is limitless. He doesn’t play by the rules and that’s what makes him a treasure. Every time a new costume by him and his team arrives, I am overwhelmed by the care and attention to detail they have invested into the piece. I’m very excited about our future collaborations with this up and coming, outta-the-box designer.”

Besides a planned store in Los Angeles, One will launch his first fragrance later this year.
