Sweet and sophisticated in equal measure, the polka dot is a style stalwart that works everywhere for every age – from the most glamorous of weddings to the most formal work situations. One of the biggest trends of last winter, designers went dotty for all things spotty; and not much has changed for this season or next. With the stars working the polka dot day and night, Marni rocking the giant dot for summer, and Louis Vuitton collaborating with Japanese surrealist Yayoi Kusama on a bag line that’s already slated for sell-out status, whether you go large or small, coloured or monochrome, being dotty for dots totally hits the style spot. - Polka dots are wear-anywhere wardrobe wonders. Stick with classic colour combinations like black, white, red, taupe and blue for timeless panache, which will work just as well in the boardroom as they would in the cocktail bar.
- As a rule, smaller dots are the most wearable and flattering.
- Multicoloured dots can make you look rather clown-like – or worse still, a walking game of Twister. Keep colourful dots for accessories only – a cute clutch or killer heels are chic without saccharine overkill.
