Fashion designer Rahul Mishra showcased his latest collection, Monsoon Diaries, a hand-woven line-up with much detailing, at FDCI India Couture Week 2015 (ICW).

The show was held at Taj Palace in New Delhi on Friday, where the award-winning designer displayed 36 ensembles for the modern-day bride, which featured motifs inspired by monsoon flora.

Using fabrics such as khadi, organza, Chanderi, merino wool and georgette, Mishra reinvented the colour palette for the modern-day bride by choosing calming hues like indigo, celadon green and natural earthy tones like brown for lehngas, anarkalis, saris, gowns, kurtas and pallazos.

Mishra explained: “Yes, it [Monsoon Diaries] is [dedicated to nature] as it is inspired by German biologist and artist Ernst Haeckel’s work Kunstformen der Natur [art forms of nature (1899)], Jardin du Malhousie takes me wandering down the mystical gardens.”

Mishra added that it took four months and more than 250 karigars (artisans) to complete the collection as “everything was handmade”.

The collection features weaving techniques like French knots and wire work.

“For me real karigari happens when the weavers uses a single thread,” Mishra said.

Asked why he didn’t he have a showstopper, Mishra said: “Bollywood is amazing and inspirational ... I spent a lot of time on the 36 ensembles I showcased today ... so I want the entire attention to go on this ...”

Designer Manish Malhotra, Anju Modi, Ritu Kumar and Samant Chauhan attended Mishra’s show.

The five-day event runs until July 24.
