Shoe great Manolo Blahnik will be honoured in September with the Artistry of Fashion award from The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

His “dedication to superior craftsmanship and innovative design” was cited for the honour, to be bestowed September 9 at a Lincoln Centre luncheon ahead of New York Fashion Week, the museum said in a statement.

Blahnik was chosen for the Couture Council Award by an advisory board that includes fashion journalists, editors, retailers and curators. He lauded the fashion-focused mission of FIT in expressing thanks.

“It is imperative that we cultivate the culture of fashion and continue educating about design and artisanship,” Blahnik said in the April 9 statement. “After all it is fashion that makes the world so much more colourful and interesting, so we must nurture and celebrate talent.”

Last year’s winner was Carolina Herrera. Other past winners include Michael Kors, the late Oscar de la Renta, Valentino and Karl Lagerfeld.
