Clothes worn by models on the runway are often impractical to wear, but the collection rolled out by retailer Splash at the Lakme Fashion Week on Sunday, celebrated functionality.

Stylish hoodies, long trench coats with fur trimmings, tapered pants for men, along with edgy maxi-dresses for women were the highlights this year.

Randeep Hooda, the face of the brand, claims walking the ramp in his customised suit was a great way to celebrate his birthday.

“I feel like a million bucks because I am in this classic check suit with funky shoes and accessories,” said Hooda after the show. His idea of a perfect birthday is to work hard and party even harder.

Sunny Leone, the brand ambassador for Splash India, claimed that her body-fitting sequin-encrusted gown was comfortable.

“I can dance in this the whole night. This is what I love about Splash, they are incredibly stylish and make clothes that are comfortable,” said Leone after the runway presentation.

The focus was on being chic and at ease. The relaxed fit of the shorts, the contrasting red ankle socks with black suits and tapered pants for men, the red jackets made high street fashion look like a dream to wear.

The models, in their mix of casual and formal wear, didn’t look as if they were trying too hard to impress. They wore their clothes with confidence, but didn’t let the clothes wear them.

“When I was a young man, I loved fashion but I couldn’t afford them. That’s how Splash was created. It is for young people who are intelligent about fashion, but want it to be affordable,” said Raza Beig, CEO of Splash.
