Spirituality is living with reality, not running away from it," says Brahmarshi Patriji, best described as a ‘spiritual scientist'.
Currently visiting the UAE to spread his universal method of meditation, he told XPRESS that meditation, through which one can attain spirituality, can be practised by anyone at any time and any place by merely focusing on one's breath.
Distinct from other schools of thought, his Pyramid Spiritual Societies (PSS) movement shuns religion, idol and personality worship. Even the chanting of mantras, says Patriji, distracts one's concentration away from the breath.
No special postures
"These are just images and we cannot live in an illusion," he says, adding, "We should only learn lessons on methods, morals and strategies from [mythological] stories."
His anasanapati method of meditation, which entails no special postures or breathing techniques, only requires one to keep the hands clasped and eyes shut while focusing on the breath. Any comfortable sitting position will do.
"When we are with our breath energy, we empty our mind to let the cosmic energy flow in," he says, adding that a daily routine of meditation could completely heal us of our problems - medical or otherwise.
The prescribed dose corresponds with a person's age, he says, explaining how a 40-year-old would need to meditate for at least 40 minutes a day.
A post-graduate in soil sciences from the state of Andhra Pradesh in India, Patriji worked with a fertiliser company for 18 years before he founded the PSS. His science of meditation, which is imparted free of cost, is currently being practised by around one million people around the world.
