Ablution goes green
New environmentally-friendly way to ablution saves up to 80% water
Dubai : Ablution, the act of washing before prayers by Muslims, has turned high-tech and greener with an automatic machine that saves water by up to 80 per cent.
Using a system of sensors and basins, the world's first pre-prayer automatic washer, called Wudu Washer, will soon find its way to mosques and possibly airports in the UAE, according to AACE Technologies, the Malaysian manufacturer.
Advance booking
Wudu is Arabic for the act of washing the face, arms and legs before prayer.
"We have booked firm orders from high-profile customers in the UAE… some will be used in VIP mosques," Anthony Gomez, Chief Executive Officer of AACE told XPRESS by phone, but declined to give more details.
"We've got inquiries from institutions like the airport authorities and oil companies in the UAE, while advanced orders were also booked from Kuwait and Qatar," he said, adding they are also working to enter the Saudi market.
The company is currently mass-producing the high-tech washer in a Kuala Lumpur factory and first deliveries will be made "soon".
"During Haj in Saudi Arabia, more than two million pilgrims use 50 million litres of water daily for wudu. With our machines, up to 40 million litres can be saved," said Gomez.
