He rented out the Staples Centre in LA last September just so they could watch Titanic privately together and has crooned that he’d “never let his girlfriend go”, but it seems that even Selena Gomez, 20 and Justin Bieber, 18, had an expiry date, with sources now confirming the pair has broken up after dating for two years.
Rumours first flared up in mid-October, when Justin tweeted snaps of himself looking forlorn, with captions like “just me” and “lingse” (an anagram for single), and the inside track is that “Selena broke up with Justin” about a week ago because of “crazy schedules”. “It was a really challenging experience over the last year,” the source continued, “Selena definitely had some major trust issues with Justin.”
Justin now a 'modeliser'
“She’s good for him,” Bieber’s mum Pattie Mallette recently told Ellen DeGeneres of Selena, but at last week’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show, Justin’s attention was on the models. “I’m like 98 per cent focused. Two per cent of my focus is on the chicks,” Biebs spilled before he performed on stage with the lingerie models last Tuesday. Then, when asked if he was going to pick up any of the new collection pieces for Selena, he replied, “No shopping for me.”
“Justin tried very hard to hit on the babes,” noted one Hollywood watcher, “he was flirting and asking the models for their numbers during filming and at the after-party.” And his charm-offensive seemed to work, as he was spied out the very next night at the Broadway production of The Lion King with striking Hungarian model Barbara Palvin, 19.
The leggy brunette tweeted a picture of herself with Biebs, with the caption, “you were great tonight”, while Justin tweeted a picture with her in the background, which Selena then cryptically retweeted with the caption “…….”. Dot, dot, dot, indeed. In fact, the same lingerie model has already expressed her distaste for Disney queen Selena, as, when asked by her fans in a webchat what her favourite song was, she offered up, “I don’t like Selena Gomez by the way”.
Belieber hate too much for Selena
Despite Justin recently spilling to Oprah that he would never choose to walk out of a different door to Selena when paps or fans are there because he didn’t “ever want to make her feel” like he’s “ashamed of her,” Selena has said she found the constant scrutiny that came with dating Justin “horrible”. And all of this only escalated after the scandal of everyday-fan Mariah Yeater claiming Justin was the father of her three-month-old son last November. But it was the internet hatred from overzealous Beliebers that may have finally been too much for Selena. “It’s hard, it really hurts, it really does,” she recently spilled about the harassment. “We imagine the 20-year-old will be happy to leave her role as the main source of intense tween anguish and jealousy,” theorised one insider.
Are they ever getting back together?
Despite reports that Justin’s already dating Victoria’s Secret model Barbara, and whispers that Gomez has intense off-screen chemistry with her Wizards Of Waverly Place co-star Gregg Sulkin, some insiders believe the pair will get back together. “They are young,” a source pointed out, “and it changes from day to day. Right now it’s a break-up and tomorrow it could be back on, knowing them. It’s hard to say how they’ll end up, but maybe she feels more serious about it this time. We’ll see.”
A friend of Bieber’s is optimistic, however, “They’re both being a bit cagey and stubborn,” the pal spilled. “But they’re desperate to see one another. This isn’t new for them, they often have a tumultuous relationship, but we all expect them to work it out.”
But Justin doesn’t sound so sure about a reunion, saying, “I don’t know what to say. I don’t know what’s going on in my life,” when asked about the split. Watch this space.
