Shoppers seeking retail therapy at The Dubai Mall were treated to some Bollywood action on Tuesday. tabloid! saw stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone put their best foot forward on the ice rink as they shot a song for their Dubai-set film Happy New Year.

While Padukone wore a short blue jumpsuit with a brown jacket to keep her warm, Khan looked dapper in blue jeans and black blazer, a look he’s sported in many of his earlier films such as Kal Ho Naa Ho and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

“Thank you for coming but please don’t use flash,” Khan urged his fans who had flocked to see him perform.

Khan stood in the centre of the rink with young skaters from local skating schools dancing in circles around him.

If you weren’t there, simply remember the song Mitwa from Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna: where he spreads his arms (as if trying to embrace the whole world in them) with one knee slightly bent or Khan on the Brooklyn Bridge in Kal Ho Naa Ho (was it Farah Khan who choreographed the songs?) Only difference being this time, it was on ice.

Meanwhile, Farah, the director of the film, used the microphone to shout out instructions.

A few hundred on-lookers turned up to see the stars in action, showing restraint as they watched in silence. Some, who were filming and taking pictures on their mobile phones were taken aside by security and made to delete the content.

Happy New Year will be filmed in several locations across Dubai this month. Last week, the film’s team was shooting at Atlantis, The Palm.

The film is scheduled to release next year.
