Busy Ryan Seacrest is moving into the Spanish-speaking television market.
The Telemundo network said Sunday the American Idol host will produce a new music series that each week will pit two established artists against each other in a competition for the audience’s vote.
Telemundo Media President Emilio Romano says he hopes Seacrest can use his music business contacts to leverage big artists to appear on the show.
Superstar Showdown is a format that has worked in other countries and Telemundo is hoping that success can translate to the United States.
Telemundo is well below industry leader Univision in popularity. But it just had its best ratings ever for the first three months of this year.
