London: Britain’s 90-year-old Queen Elizabeth II is a Vanity Fair cover star, in a portrait by photographer Annie Leibovitz.

The monarch is pictured sitting with her four beloved dogs: corgis Willow and Holly, and dorgis Candy and Vulcan.

The picture, published Tuesday, was taken at Windsor Castle earlier this year. Another photo shows the queen sitting alongside her 94-year-old husband, Prince Philip.

Several other images from the same series — including a picture of the monarch surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren — were released by Buckingham Palace on the queen’s birthday, April 21.

Leibovitz, a renowned celebrity portrait photographer, said all the photos were the queen’s idea. She said “you get the sense of how at peace she was with herself, and very much enthralled with her family.”
