Gulf News readers were ecstatic with the news that Megan Young from the Philippines won in the Miss World Top Model competition.

The organisers shared the news on Friday ahead of the coronation night to be held on Saturday in Indonesia.

Young bested nine other finalists in this competition. Olivia Jordan of the United States ranked second, with the runners up from France, Ukraine and Brazil.

Young, 23, is one of the consistent toppers in the Miss World people’s choice award. Based on Wednesday’s online poll result, she ranked second after Maroua Kharbouch of Gibraltar.

The Filipina beauty also won awards in the Beach Fashion competition and in the multimedia contest, where she ranked fifth and fourth place respectively.

The winner of this contest will go straight to the finals of the Miss World coronation night.

Dawn Jose, a creative director in Dubai, has high hopes that Young will win the title.

She said: “Young has captured the audience with her sophisticated look and supermodel walk with a touch of a beauty queen, so the chances are very high.”

Olga Barcelona, a client services manager in Dubai, is also hopeful for Young.

She said: “Young has a chance to win Miss World because she is witty, beautiful and has the qualities of Miss World. She is the epitome of a typical Filipina and for sure is at par with all the other contestants.”

Young, a TV host and actress, is one of the National Peace Ambassadors alongside other local personalities such as Anne Curtis, Gerald Anderson, Mikael Daez and apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas for the “I Am For Peace” campaign held on September 14, 2012 at the Malacanang Palace.

Young has charmed the crowd with her beauty and intellect. She may have won the hearts of the people, but can she finally take hold of the coveted Miss World 2013 crown?
