After two years of dating, singer Zayn Malik and model Gigi Hadid have called it quits. According to separate statements posted on Tuesday, the split was an amicable one. Malik called the relationship “meaningful, loving and fun” and referenced Hadid’s “incredible soul”. Hadid said she would continue to support her friend who she has “immense respect and love for”. November, 2015 – The couple met at a Victoria’s Secret party, where Malik told Hadid he recognised her from a photograph and asked her out on a date. They went to Gemma restaurant in New York. The couple’s first public outing was after the American Music Awards. Hadid had previously been dating Joe Jonas, and reportedly broke up with him the same month she began dating Malik. Jonas deleted a picture of himself, Malik and Kanye West from Instagram, and unfollowed Hadid.
December 20, 2015 – Malik and Hadid posted one of many black-and-white Polaroid selfies on Instagram, showing off their cosy bond.
Jan 12, 2016 – Hadid emerged in public wearing a jewel-encrusted Z necklace on Malik’s 22nd birthday.
Jan 28, 2016 – Hadid appeared in Malik’s debut music video for Pillowtalk. The couple looked loved up, and later showed each other appreciation on social media for their performances in the video.
April, 2016 – Malik and Hadid appeared together in a cover shoot for Vogue. The shoot took place in Naples, accompanied by a behind-the-scenes clip that showed off the couple’s comfort around one another. They had to drive eight hours from Milan, where Hadid had just walked for Versace. She said: “If anyone could keep me entertained on a road trip without phone service or Wi-Fi, it’s Zayn.”
April 22, 2016 – Hadid’s ex, Joe Jonas, broke his silence about the budding relationship. According to The Mirror, Jonas found it comical that he was so frequently compared to Malik, and said he doesn’t listen to his music, but thinks he ‘can sing well’. “I think it’s interesting that she moved on so quickly, I mean it was definitely very quick,” said Jonas.
April 23, 2016 – Hadid turns 21 in style, celebrating at The Nice Guy with her boyfriend in attendance. Malik was spotted supporting his girlfriend as they exited the club. They also went on a hike together, along with Malik’s mother and three sisters.
May 3, 2016 – Malik and Hadid made their memorable red carpet debut. The pair went to the Met Gala arm in bionic arm. Their metallic look was a hit with critics, and kept in line with the ceremony’s technology-meets-fashion theme.
