Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil is being charged with misdemeanour battery in a case alleging he grabbed a woman’s hair and pulled her to the ground in April outside a Las Vegas Strip resort.

Neil’s attorney, David Chesnoff, declined to comment on Friday on the criminal complaint and summons filed on June 27. It orders Neil to appear July 27 in Las Vegas Justice Court.

The incident came to light after a bystander mobile phone video provided to TMZ.com showed actor Nicolas Cage physically restraining Neil before police arrived on April 7 outside the Aria resort.

The 55-year-old Neil wasn’t arrested, and Cage wasn’t accused of a crime.

Chesnoff called at that time for people not to prejudge what happened.

Neil lives in Las Vegas, where he has been involved in business ventures ranging from tattoo shops and bars to a strip club and Arena Football League team.

He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in November 2011 and paid a $1,000 (Dh3,672) fine to close a misdemeanour battery domestic violence case alleging he poked an ex-girlfriend in the chest with his finger at a Las Vegas casino lounge.

Neil served 10 days in jail in February 2011 after pleading guilty to misdemeanour drunk driving stemming from a June 2010 traffic stop in his black Lamborghini sports car near the Las Vegas Strip.

Motley Crue is a heavy metal band known as much for 1980s-era partying and famous girlfriends as for hits like Girls, Girls, Girls and Dr Feelgood.
