‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ author’s ashes were originally estimated to go for $4,000
Some people will pay good money for anything involving the late Truman Capote.
Including his ashes.
Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles announced on Saturday that Capote’s ashes, contained in a Japanese wooden box have sold for $45,000 (Dh165,240).
That’s well above the original estimate, which the auction house reported as $4,000.
The ashes are dated August 28, 1984, days after the author of Breakfast at Tiffany’s and In Cold Blood died at 59.
The ashes were long kept by Capote’s close friend and ex-wife of Johnny Carson, Joanne Carson, who died last year.
