Canada: More than 50 years after starring in The Sound of Music, actress Heather Menzies Urich has died, her son said. She was 68.

Menzies Urich played Louisa von Trapp in the classic 1965 movie.

Her son told CNN that she died of brain cancer on Sunday, one month after being diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme.

Ryan Urich said his mother died surrounded by loved ones at a family home in Canada.

The actress played Louisa, one of the von Trapp children in The Sound of Music that also stars Julie Andrews.

She has played in other films such as Outside In and TV shows such as Spenser: For Hire.
