Kelly Osbourne has revealed she has the same faulty cancer gene that prompted actress Angelina Jolie to have her ovaries removed.

The reality TV star, who is 30, says she too intends to have preventative surgery.

She was urged to have genetic tests by her mother Sharon, the former X Factor judge who has had a double mastectomy.

Osbourne revealed her predicament just hours after Jolie announced her operation had put her into a “forced menopause” at 39. The actress said her six offspring will never have to say “Mum died of ovarian cancer”.

On US TV show The Talk, Osbourne said: “I have the cancer gene. My mum made all of us get tested after she found out she had it and got her double mastectomy.”

She praised Jolie’s decision to have her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed, adding: “One day I will have to do it too because, if I have children, I want to be there to bring them up.

“I’m so lucky to have the mother I have, the brave mother I have — that has taught me so much.

“It’s something that I applaud Angelina for, bringing attention to this.”

Osbourne, daughter of 66-year-old Black Sabbath singer Ozzy, has an older sister Aimee, 31, and a brother Jack, 29, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2012.

She said she carries a constant reminder from her mother to be rigorous about her own health checks: “The ring that I wear is because she was taken into the operation room and she was trying to hide that she was still wearing diamonds and she didn’t want to take them off. The doctor caught her and put it on my finger and it’s never come off since. It’s a constant reminder that I always have to check myself. I will never take it off.”

Mrs Osbourne, 62, underwent her double mastectomy in late 2012 after a DNA test discovered she had the BRCA gene mutation which can lead to breast cancer.
