Critics will have to wait a little longer to weigh in on the Broadway return of Al Pacino and his new David Mamet play until after Thanksgiving.

Producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Steve Traxler said on Monday that China Doll, which was supposed to open on November 19, will open instead on December 4, an unusual two-week delay so late in the process.

The show began previews on October 21 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Last week’s six performances were virtually sold out again and the show has earned over $1 million (Dh3.6 million) every week it’s been running.

In a statement, the producers said the “move allows the creative team additional time to work on the play before its world premiere.”

The last time Mamet was on Broadway was the disastrous The Anarchist.
